A letter to voters

Below is a letter I would like to send to people who did not vote for Kamala Harris in 2024, Joe Biden in 2020 or Hillary Clinton in 2016. (Why bring up Biden, who defeated Trump? Because if more people voted for Biden, a historic landslide could have resulted, like when Nixon won 49 states in 1972. Republicans would have been forced to discard Trump and return to relative normalcy.)

Dear Trump voters and other voters who did not vote for Dems,

The signs were flashing all along. But blinded by your lack of empathy and lack of basic decency, you got hoodwinked. You believed “those other” people would suffer the wrath of Trump’s MAGA-ism. You gleefully ignored obvious indicators that Trump is a corrupt, savage narcissist. Your personal agenda stopped you from voting for a qualified woman (2016), a qualified man (2020), or a qualified Black woman (2024). All of them sane, none of whom would unleash the military on American citizens while stuffing the pockets of billionaires.

Your need to exert control over the bodies of women whom you don’t even know, your need to control the identities of people you don’t know and your need to mistreat people based on skin color somehow trumped Jesus’ teaching of compassion, contained in the Bible you apparently have not read.

For a decade you stubbornly ignored Captain Obvious signs that Trump ranks among the worst people the world have ever witnessed. After his first term, historians said he was the worst president America had ever produced. Yet, you granted Trump a second term.

Here are just some of the signs that failed to activate your shit-detector:

In 2015, Trump announced his candidacy saying, “Mexico sends us people bringing drugs, bringing crime, they’re rapists.” Sane voters headed for the exit, but not you. You settled into your favorite chair and put your feet up, eager for more bluster.

At a 2015 campaign rally Trump mocked a disabled NY Times reporter. You laughed.

Also, during a 2015 campaign rally, Trump disparaged war hero John McCain, saying McCain “was not a war hero” and that he (Trump) “liked people who weren’t captured.” This was antithetical to your flag waving, but you went along with it.

In 2016, Trump belittled a Muslim Gold Star family.

During the 2016 campaign, Trump rolled out one of his biggest lies, bragging that Mexico would pay for a 2,000-mile border wall. A decade later, barely a few hundred miles of wall and no pesos from Mexico.

Late in the 2016 campaign, you learned of Trump’s barbarism when the Access Hollywood video came out. You compartmentalized Trump bragging, “When you’re a star you can do anything you want. Grab ‘em by the p____.”

You went ahead and voted for Trump in 2016.

In 2018, you learned Trump paid hush money to a pornography actress. The tryst with the porno star occurred while Melania was home with their baby. Still, Bible-thumping, self-proclaimed Christians gave Trump a pass regarding his un-Christian-like behavior.

In 2020, we learned that two years prior, in France to visit a World War I cemetery (a visit Trump punked out of because it was raining), Trump called fallen U.S. soldiers “losers and suckers.”

In 2020, Trump’s sheer ignorance and stupidity resulted in America leading the globe in covid infections and deaths.

Yet, you voted for Trump in 2020.

Trump’s biggest lie is the 2020 election was stolen from him, proven untrue in over 60 court decisions.

In January 2021, undeterred, Trump attempted to overthrow our government. We watched treasonous, ICE-like thugs pummel courageous cops. Unpatriotic hoodlums trashed the U.S. Capitol. Afterward, Trump convinced you that your eyes did not see what your eyes saw: an angry mob intent on killing Congress members. Rioters constructed a noose while chanting “Hang Mike Pence!” You believed it when Trump claimed rioters were Black Lives Matter protesters (provably false).

In 2023, a judge said Trump raped E. Jean Carroll.

In 2024, Trump was found guilty of 34 felonies!

During the 2024 campaign Trump delivered another whopper, pretending not to understand that tariffs are a national tax on Americans. (Cue Steely Dan’s “Only a fool would say that.”) Trump voters bought his tariff illusion. (Cue the Doobie Brothers’ “What a fool believes.”) Ask farmers and manufacturers how the tariff gambit is going. Better yet, ask American consumers who pay the tariff tax.

At the 2024 RNC Convention, Trump and Republicans openly relished indiscriminate, mass deportations.

Amazingly, against your family’s best interests, you voted for Trump in 2024.

In a jaw dropper, 48% of Hispanics voted “yes” to being abused by ICE. Not to be outdone, nearly 1 in 5 Blacks voted “yes” to returning to the Jim Crow era. Displaying their own lack of common sense, 53% of White women voted “yes” to supporting a creep who – without much hesitation – would sexually assault them and their daughters.

In 2025, Trump cut off aid to starving Africans. Global health organizations forecast hundreds of thousands, possibly millions, will die because of Trump’s cruelty.

Trump allowed SNAP benefits to expire, during his government shutdown. By law, he’s obligated to use SNAP’s contingency fund to feed Americans. Federal judges had to force Trump to distribute SNAP benefits. After Trump obfuscated, the Agriculture Department finally agreed to activate SNAP emergency funds. (Whereas Jesus fed the multitudes with five loaves of bread and two fish, fake Christian Republicans were happy not distributing SNAP emergency funds, without which millions of Americans would starve.)

Obliviously, you voted for your own healthcare costs to double (can’t make up this kind of ignorance). Trump won’t care if you end up bankrupt. He and his billionaire pals will celebrate tax breaks that won’t trickle down to you.

Meanwhile, evidence piles up that Trump just might be a pedophile. Please show me where in your Bible Jesus says, “Grace be to those who sexually abuse children.” Or “Grace be to those who cover-up for pedophiles.”

For years, you’ve been fed unassailable proof Trump is a pathological liar. A corrupt narcissist. Now an adjudicated rapist and 34x felon. Yet, undeterred even by your self-proclaimed patriotic Christianity, you voted for the fascism being dumped on your country.

You play a game of FAFO (F___ Around and Find Out) and are losing in a rout. You are getting f-ed while finding out.

When the smoke clears – and it will – many of us are OK if you suffer for eternity the consequences of your stupidity. Sorry, not sorry.
